MAS does need help in order to do the best job for animals in their care. Small, simple, one piece beds for cats are now greatly needed and help the cats feel more comfortable and secure.

We also applaud the MAS staff and their heroic efforts. And, we salute the other animal organizations in Louisville and Southern Indiana who answered the call by sharing their resources in the time of crisis. We're also proud of Kentuckiana's pet lo…

All of our pets are rescue animals, with the exception of Chekov the mouse. After being purchased for Teacup the python's dinner, he chewed his way out of the box and ran amuck in the car for two days. Unbelievably, he was found alive and well and earned his right to be in a cage of his own instead of with the snake!

Thank You to Metro Animal Services Staff

There has been a lot of media coverage about the recent flooding at MAS. Some of it very positive and some negative. Having spent the last two days at the makeshift shelt at the fairgrounds and performing cleanup at the shelter itself, I just wanted to pause a moment and comment on the negative. First, MAS in general sometimes gets a bad wrap because they do have to euthanize animals on occasion. This is never because that is the staff's choice. Everyone at Metro is there because they care. I ca… Continue

I was watching the news the other day, i heard a shelter say it euthanized 8000 animals in a year. I didnt realize it was that many. I dont know how i can help, i havent any money, im on disability. I dont know if i could volunteer im afraid it would break my heart to see so many put down. I do speak out every chance i get and i own two wonderful rescued cats. Alberta

As a petsitter, I don't petsit in my home. I go to their's for scheduled visits. So Lucy, if you are taking pets into your home, then yes, you would need some type of license or permit. You may even need to look into zoning issues with your home. Al…

They are probably referring to the licence you need from Louisville Metro Animal Control. You need a license for boarding (babysitting is considered the same thing as they are in your care during that time) You do need this as the fines are steep fo…

They might be referring to a business license, which you don't need for a pet sitting business. You might want to join a petsitters group like Petsitters International (www.petsit.com). They usually have a lot of good info for getting your business…
